Russell Cave National Monument
History buffs will love Russell Cave, the prize at the end of a 12 mile trail that winds through 310 acres of pristine woodlands. It was donated to the area by the National Geographic Society. President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the site a National Monument in 1961 and it is still the only one in Alabama. Visitors can take a self-guided tour through the cave shelter, or experienced spelunkers can apply for a permit to explore the big cave. Call (256) 259-2884 for more information.

Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center
Historical and cultural museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Jackson County. Focuses on the county from 8,000 B.C. to the 1930s.
