Russell Cave National Monument
History buffs will love Russell Cave, the prize at the end of a 12 mile trail that winds through 310 acres of pristine woodlands. It was donated to the area by the National Geographic Society. President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the site a National Monument in 1961 and it is still the only one in Alabama. Visitors can take a self-guided tour through the cave shelter, or experienced spelunkers can apply for a permit to explore the big cave. Call (256) 259-2884 for more information.

Scottsboro-Jackson Heritage Center
Historical and cultural museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Jackson County. Focuses on the county from 8,000 B.C. to the 1930s. The museum consists of the 1881 neo-classical Brown-Proctor house, "Sagetown" pioneer village and the 1868 Jackson County Courthouse. Call (256) 259-2122. for more information.
